Women's Basketball wins eighth straight game after downing Phoenix College
The Pima Community College women's basketball team (20-4, 12-2 in ACCAC) secured a 20-win season on Wednesday at Phoenix College (11-12, 8-6).
- The No. 11 ranked Aztecs won their eighth straight game after toppling the Bears 73-53. It was Pima's third victory over Phoenix College during the regular season. The Aztecs won the games by an average of 16.3 points.
- The Aztecs took a double-digit lead in the second quarter after outscoring the Bears 19-7 to take a 37-21 lead at halftime.
- The Aztecs went up 59-34 entering the fourth quarter after out-pacing Phoenix College 22-13 in the third.
- Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City Christian) scored a team-high 23 points as she went 10-for-14 from the field. She grabbed eight rebounds and had two steals.
- Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) scored 10 points to go with eight assists, three rebounds and one steal while freshman Kahlia Gonzales (Mesquite HS) also added 10 points. She was 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Gonzales also had five steals, three assists and two rebounds.
- Sophomore Lucy Land and freshman Reigne Waugh each had six points. Sophomore Cassie Coolidge (Sahuaro HS) contributed with five points and five rebounds.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they take on Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
