Melicia Nelson posts second straight triple-double as Women's Basketball overtakes Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (9-2, 3-0 in ACCAC) earned its seventh straight victory on Saturday in its ACCAC conference home opener.

  • The No. 6 ranked Aztecs held the lead for most of the game and went on to a 78-49 win over Glendale Community College (5-5, 1-3).
  • The Aztecs led 37-27 at halftime but broke the game open in the third quarter outscoring the Gauchos 22-10. The Aztecs led by as much as 32 points late in the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City Christian) posted a double-double as she scored a game-high 21 points and had 12 rebounds to go with three blocks.
  • Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) posted a triple-double for the second straight game as she went for 17 points, 11 rebounds (nine offensive) and 11 assists. She added three steals and one block.
  • Freshman Reigne Waugh also finished in double figures as she scored 13 points on 5 for 7 shooting to go with four rebounds and two steals.
  • Pima outscored the Glendale bench 23-8 as freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) finished with six points and four rebounds while sophomore Ahdiayh Chee (Dobson HS) added six points after hitting a pair of three-pointers.
  • The Aztecs were 40.3 percent from the field (29-72) and hit eight 3-pointers for the game. They also went 85.7 percent (12 for 14) from the foul line.

The Aztecs face a tough test on Wednesday as they play at Scottsdale Community College in an ACCAC conference game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
