Melicia Nelson posts team-high 17 points and 13 rebounds as Women's Basketball rallies to beat Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (19-4, 11-2 in ACCAC) won its seventh straight game on Saturday as it played at Scottsdale Community College (15-7, 9-4) in a matchup between two NJCAA Division II nationally ranked programs.

  • The No. 11 ranked Aztecs defeated the No. 16 Artichokes 56-51 after rallying in the fourth quarter. Pima has won 10 of their last 11 games.
  • The Aztecs won the first two quarters taking a 33-27 lead at the break, but the Artichokes outscored the Aztecs 15-8 in the third quarter. Pima trailed 42-41 entering the fourth quarter. The Aztecs countered by outscoring the Artichokes 15-9 to end the game.
  • Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) closed out the game with a double-double and a team-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also added five assists and three steals.
  • Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City Christian) finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
  • Freshman Reigne Waugh also scored double figures as she went for 12 points and also had four rebounds.
  • Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) contributed with eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Aztecs hit the road on Wednesday when they play at Phoenix College in an ACCAC conference game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
