Trisha Stine claims Region I title in Long Jump as Women's Track & field takes lead in team standings
The Pima Community College women's track & field team holds a double digit lead in the team standings after the first day of the Region I Championships.
- The Aztecs have a total of 99 while Mesa Community College sits in second place with 81 points and Central Arizona College is third with 74 points. Paradise Valley Community College is in fourth place with 31 points and Glendale Community College is fifth with seven points.
- Freshman Trisha Stine (Red Mountain HS) took first place in the Long Jump as she earned a new personal-record with a jump of 5.63 meters (18-5.75-inches) on her fourth attempt.
- The Aztecs claimed the top four spots in the Long Jump earning a total of 29 team points. Freshman Cayla Jones (Cienega HS) earned second place at 5.53 meters (18-1.75) while sophomore Kymia Bridgett was third at 5.53 meters (18-1.75). Freshman Montana Poe (Sahuaro HS) took the fourth spot with a mark of 5.49 meters (18-0.25).
- Freshman Tyra Starkey (Casteel HS) earned second place and eight team points in the Pole Vault as she finished with a new PR of 3.46 meters (11-feet, 4.25-inches) on her third attempt.
- Sophomore Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) placed third in the Javelin with a throw of 35.72 meters (117-2) to earn six points.
- Sophomore Morgan Mosley tacked on another six team points for the Aztecs as she claimed third place in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 46.76 meters (153-5).
- The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS), Elsie Ibarra Borboa (St. Augustine Catholic HS), freshman Julie Fonseca (Rincon HS) and sophomore Elizabeth Coppola (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) took third place with a time of 11:27.37 and added another six points to the team score.
Other Pima finishes that earned team points:
- Elizabeth Ugwu (Sahuaro HS) – Fifth place in Hammer Throw 39.37 meters (129-feet, 2-inches) (4pts)
- Angela Vasquez (Valley Union HS) – Fifth place in Javelin 34.78 meters (114-1) (4pts)
- Isabella Files – Sixth place in Hammer Throw 35.79 meters (117-5) (3pts)
- Karlee Pope – Sixth place in 3,000-meter steeplechase 13:31.92 (3pts)
- Lilyanne Dawson (Empire HS) – Seventh place in Hammer Throw 35.14 meters (115-3) (2pts)
- Elsie Ibarra Borboa (St. Augustine Catholic HS) – Seventh place in 3,000-meter steeplechase 15:30.88 (2pts)
- Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) – Eighth place in Pole Vault 2.56 meters (8-4.75) (1pt)
The Aztecs will compete in the final day of the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College. Events begin at 5:00 p.m.
