Cervantes and Navarro score, Mendez has two assists as Women's Soccer stymies Mesa CC to close regular season

Sophomore Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) scored an insurance goal in the 66th minute while fellow sophomore Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) had six saves as the No. 13 ranked Aztecs Women's Soccer team completed an undefeated ACCAC conference record with a 2-0 win at Mesa Community College. The Aztecs went 11-0-3 and it was their first undefeated record in conference since 2007. They are 11-1-5 overall and await their seeding for the Region I, Division I Tournament. The Pima Community College women's soccer team (11-1-5, 11-0-3 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Saturday at Mesa Community College (4-11-1, 3-9-1).

  • The No. 13 ranked Aztecs defeated the Thunderbirds 2-0 to complete an undefeated record in ACCAC conference play for the first time since 2007. It was their sixth shutout win of the season.
  • The Aztecs swept the regular season against Mesa as they won 8-1 on Sept. 27 at the West Campus Aztec Field.
  • Freshman Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season after she converted on a shot in the 28th minute.
  • Sophomore Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) added an insurance goal in the second half as she scored on a rebounded header inside the box in the 77th minute. Sophomore Samantha Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) had both assists on the goals
  • The Aztecs finished with six shots on goal as sophomore Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) closed out the game with six saves.

The Aztecs will find out their seed for next week's Region I, Division II Tournament after Monday's game between Phoenix College and Scottsdale Community College. If the Bears tie or lose to the Artichokes, the Aztecs will get the No. 1 seed. The Aztecs will play in the semifinal round on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
