Mattanaya vital averages 14 points to earn ACCAC Division II Player of the Week

Pima Community College women's basketball player Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) produced some strong performances on the court during the week of Feb. 16-22 as the Aztecs played three games.

  • Vital, a sophomore guard, was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week becoming the third Aztecs player to earn the honor this season. It is the eighth week that a Pima women's basketball player has received the award.
  • Vital helped the Aztecs go 3-0 with wins over Yavapai College, Glendale Community College and Mesa Community College. She averaged 14.0 points and 2.0 assists while shooting 47 percent (15 for 32) from the field and 45 percent (10 for 22) from three-point range. She capped off the week by scoring 18 points after going 7 for 13 from the field and 4 for 8 from beyond the arc in Pima's win at No. 3 Mesa.
  • She has played in 25 games this season; making 17 starts. She is averaging 8.1 points and 2.3 assists this season.

The No. 9 ranked Aztecs (23-5, 14-3 in ACCAC) close out the regular season on Saturday when they host No. 25 Scottsdale Community College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
