Belen Camacho and Sariah Ferrentino throw shutouts as Softball blanks Chandler-Gilbert CC

The Pima Community College softball team (16-1, 11-1 in ACCAC) was in action on Saturday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (6-9, 4-6).
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs picked up their fifth ACCAC doubleheader sweep of the season as they beat the Coyotes at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
Sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day 2-for-2 with an RBI and four walks. Sophomore pitchers Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) and Saraiah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) kept the Chandler-Gilbert offense in-check combining to give up no runs on nine hits with 13 strikeouts.

  • (6) Pima CC Aztecs 8, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 0 (6 innings): The Aztecs took the lead early as Camacho pitched a complete-game shutout, going six innings, giving up two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk on 75 pitches.
    Sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) put Pima on the board with a two-run RBI double to score freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) and sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS).
    Up 3-0, the Aztecs scored three more runs in the 5th inning. Freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) hit an RBI double to bring in pinch runner Emylie Alkire (Empire HS). Freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) followed with a two run RBI single to score freshman Aaliyah Pereda (Mountain View HS) and Dehler to make it 6-0.
    Pereda knocked in two runs in the 6th inning with an RBI single driving in freshman Mia Lopez-Vasquez (Sunnyside HS) and Figueroa.
    Mendoza finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Lopez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Pereda went 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Figueroa closed it out, going 2-for-4 with two runs and Dehler finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

  • Game 2: (6) Pima CC Aztecs 2, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 0: The Aztecs scored one run in the 1st inning and one in the 6th inning as Ferrentino did the rest from the circle. She pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks on 100 pitches.
    Nunez hit an RBI single in the 1st inning to score Aguirre.
    Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) made it 2-0 with her RBI single to score pinch runner Tayah Lyons in the 6th.
    The Coyotes stranded runners at the corners in the 7th inning as Ferrentino got the strikeout to end the game.

The Aztecs hit the road for the next six games. They will play a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Eastern Arizona College. The first game will start at 12:00 p.m.
