Brent Clark captures 3,000m steeplechase crown, Ketch Sulpizio shatters school record in Pole Vault

Sophomore Brent Clark won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:36.80 while fellow sophomore Ketch Sulpizio broke the Pima Outdoor school record in the Pole Vault and placed second with a vault of 5.01 meters (16-5.25) breaking Nick Mossberg's record from 2004. The Pima Community College men's track & field competed in the first day of the Region I Championships on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.

  • The Aztecs are in first place with a total of 105 points while Mesa Community College is right behind them with 101 points. Central Arizona College is in third with 58 points and Glendale Community College sits in fourth place with 26. Paradise Valley Community College has 12 points.
  • Sophomore Brent Clark won the region title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he crossed the finish line with a time of 9 minutes, 36.80 seconds, earning 10 team points. He won the ACCAC Conference title in the same event on Apr. 3.
  • Sophomore Ketch Sulpizio (Gila Ridge HS) took second place in the Pole Vault earning eight team points, but he shattered the Pima Outdoor school record as he cleared a vault of 5.01 meters (16-feet, 5.25-inches) on his second attempt. He took down Nick Mossberg's previous record of 4.90 meters (16-feet, 0.75-inches) set in 2004. Sulpizio's previous PR in the event had tied Mossberg's record.
  • Freshman Noah Brosier also earned eight team points after he placed second in the Long Jump with a mark of 7.12 meters (23-4.50) on his fifth attempt.
  • Freshman Nicholas Horrocks (Mountain View HS) earned third place in the Javelin as he finished with a mark of 55.48 meters (182-0) on his sixth and final attempt. He earned six team points for Pima.
  • The 4x800 team of freshman Myles Oliver, freshman David Felix (Nogales HS), sophomore Aiden Hartman (Catalina Foothills HS) and freshman Eduardo Aviles (Vista Grande HS) took third place and earned six team points for the Aztecs after they finished with a time of 8:20.63.

  • Mason Richardson (Bisbee HS) – Fourth place in Pole Vault 4.41 meters (14-feet, 5.50-inches) (5pts)
  • Jose Hernandez (Rio Rico HS) – Fourth place in 3,000-meter steeplechase 10:06.31 (5pts)
  • Cedric Cade – Fourth place in Long Jump 6.83 meters (22-5) (5pts); Fifth place in Javelin 52.76 meters (173-1) (4pts); Sixth place in Pole Vault 4.11 meters (13-5.75) (3pts)
  • Bruno Fong – Fifth place in Long Jump 6.75 meters (22-1.75) (4pts)
  • Jacob Garcia (Sahuarita HS) – Seventh in Hammer Throw 41.56 meters (136-4) (2pts)
  • Domenic La Salvia (Marana HS) – Seventh place in Javelin 47.74 meters (156-7) (2pts); Eighth place in Hammer Throw 33.15 meters (108-9) (1pt)
  • Kallen McCracken (Mountain Ridge HS) – Eighth place in 3,000-meter steeplechase 10:36.80 (1pt)

The Aztecs will compete in the final day of the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College. Events begin at 5:00 p.m.
