Aztecs Men's Basketball tops Community Christian College to move to 13-0
The Pima Community College men's basketball team (13-0) competed in the second day of the Aztec Winter Classic on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
- The No. 8 ranked Aztecs defeated Community Christian College 114-55 for their 13th straight victory.
- The Aztecs went on a 15-2 run to go up 29-10 after freshman Rowan McKenzie (Boulder Creek HS) hit a three-pointer to cap it. The Aztecs took their first double digit lead at 18-8 with 15:23 left in the half.
- Pima put together another double-digit run as they held the Saints scoreless for five minutes and used an 11-0 run to make it 53-23. Pima was up 67-34 at the break.
- The Aztecs scored the first 10 points to open the second half and later produced another 12-0 run to put the score at 95-44.
- Sophomore Isaac Johnson scored a game-high 19 points on 7 for 10 shooting to go with five rebounds, two steals and one block.
- Sophomore Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half, and had six boards, four assists and two blocks.
- Sophomore Brock Mendoza had his seventh double-double of the season as he went for 13 points and 14 rebounds. He also had three assists and three blocks.
- Freshman Will Feagles had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.
- The Pima bench scored 45 points. Freshman Taevean Famutimi-Brown went 5 for 6 from the field with 14 points while McKenzie added 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Ky Green scored 10 points as he was 5 for 5 from the field. Freshman Gerron Graham (Premier Prep Academy) finished with nine points, eight assists and six rebounds.
- The Aztecs shot 59.5 percent from the field (44-74), 36.4 percent from beyond the arc (8-22) and 72 percent from the foul line (18-25).
The Aztecs close out play in the Aztec Winter Classic on Wednesday when they face off against Arizona Sol. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
