Mason Hunt and Max Majerle each score 15 points as No. 3 Men's Basketball trounces Mesa CC

Freshman Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) scored 15 points as he went 5 for 7 from the field and 3 for 4 from beyond the arc as the No. 3 ranked Aztecs Men's Basketball team won their 23rd straight game after beating Mesa Community College 111-76. The Pima Community College men's basketball team (23-0, 11-0) came out firing on all cylinders in the first half of its game against Mesa Community College (6-15, 3-8) on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 3 ranked Aztecs took their first double digit lead five minutes into the game and closed out the half on a double digit run as they beat the Thunderbirds 111-76 to win their 23rd straight game. It was Pima's 13th game to score in triple figures.
  • The Aztecs opened the game on a 15-4 run and took their first 20-point lead after freshman Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) drained his second 3-pointer to make it 32-12.
  • The Aztecs closed out the first half on a 14-0 run that was capped off by freshman Brigg Wolfe's (Mesa Mountain View HS) three-pointer at the buzzer. The Aztecs held their biggest lead of the half at 58-26.
  • Pima outscored Mesa 53-50 in the second half.
  • Sophomore Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) finished the game with 15 points as he went 5 for 6 from the field and 3 for 4 from three-point range. Hunt also scored 15 points off the bench as he shot 5 for 7 from the floor and 3 for 4 from downtown. Hunt also grabbed five rebounds.
  • Sophomore Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) posted 13 points and had eight assists and three steals.
  • Sophomore Kota Benson (Mesa HS) and Gabe Oldham each added 10 points. Benson was 4 for 6 from the field with six assists and five rebounds. Oldham shot 4 for 4 and closed out the game with five rebounds.
  • Wolfe and fellow freshman Aidan Schmidt (Casteel HS) each contributed with nine points. Wolfe had five assists and was 4 for 6 from the field. Schmidt went 3 for 3 from the field and posted four rebounds and two assists.
  • Pima went 40 for 63 (.635) from the field, 12 for 22 (.545) from beyond the arc and 19 for 24 (.792) from the free throw line.
  • Pima Men's Basketball head coach Brian Peabody sits at 699 coaching career wins.

The Aztecs will be on the court next Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they play at Scottsdale Community College in an ACCAC conference contest. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
