Canez scores as Aztecs women's soccer earns another shutout win against Cochise College

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (9-7-3) inched closer to a Region I, Division I playoff spot as the Aztecs shut out Cochise College (5-10-4) on Thursday at Kino North Stadium.

  • The Aztecs beat the Apaches 2-0 and earned a regular season sweep in head-to-head meetings. Pima beat Cochise 3-0 last month in Douglas.
  • The Aztecs got on the board when a Cochise miscue gave sophomore Perla Blanco (Sunnyside HS) a goal in the 41st minute.
  • Freshman Alysa Canez (Canyon del Oro HS) helped seal it with her goal in the 86th minute with an assist from sophomore Tayler Rinehart.
  • Sophomore Mackenzie Bernal (Tanque Verde HS) also helped preserve the shutout as she finished with seven saves.

The Aztecs hold on to the No. 5 seed and will close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Glendale Community College at Kino North Grandstand. The match begins at 11:30 a.m.
