Aztecs Men's Soccer Stifles Yavapai College with Three Unanswered Goals

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (6-0) was forced to overcome an early deficit on Tuesday against Yavapai College (4-3) at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field.

  • The No. 2 ranked Aztecs (Division II) scored three unanswered goals to beat No. 16 Yavapai College (Division I) 3-1.
  • Yavapai's Jakob Larson scored for the Roughriders in in the 2nd minute to give Yavapai the early advantage. The Aztecs responded when sophomore Brian Vu (Rincon HS) scored on a free kick to tie it up. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
  • The Aztecs blanked the Roughriders in the second half. Pima took the lead at 2-1 when Vu found sophomore Ulysses Torres (Sunnyside HS) on a cross-pass for the goal in the 46th minute.
  • The Aztecs tacked on an insurance goal in the 59th minute when sophomore Taein Ka scored in the box after a cross-pass assist from sophomore Francisco Manzo (Salpointe Catholic HS).
  • Sophomore Juan Suarez (Desert View HS) finished with nine saves. The Aztecs were outshot for the game as they had eight shots on goal while Yavapai finished with 10.
  • The Aztecs are back on the road on Friday when they play GateWay Community College at the NOS Santos Complex in Mesa. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
